Does mouthwash help?

Mouthwash can be helpful if you use it in the right way. It’s not best to use mouthwash just
after brushing your teeth, as it will wash away the concentration of fluoride from your toothpaste.

It’s best to use mouthwash in between brushes, to give you teeth an extra boost of fluoride. Make sure
that the mouthwash is alcohol free!

What is tooth decay?

Decay can start to form on your teeth when the enamel and dentine of a tooth becomes weakened by
acids from sugars in food and drink. Over a period of time, this acid can form a hole in your tooth which
is called a cavity. Tooth decay is sometimes referred to as Dental decay.

How does smoking affect teeth and gums?

Smokers are more likely to produce more plaque, which can build up and lead to problems such as gum
disease. The gums are also affected by smoking due to it causing a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream.
This means that if a smoker gets gum disease, it will be harder to heal due to this lack of oxygen.

Gum disease is the most common reason why people lose their teeth.
Does drinking alcohol ruin your teeth?

Alcoholic drinks tend to be either really acidic, or really sugar, or even both. They can cause the erosion
of the important enamel on your teeth, leading to tooth decay, pain, and sensitive teeth.

High alcohol content drinks can also cause you to get a dry mouth. This can have a bad impact on your
dental health as the saliva helps keep harmful germs and bacteria to a minimum.

What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is the word for having inflamed gums. Inflamed gums are when the gums around you teeth
turn very red and swell up. Usually the gums will also bleed when you brush your teeth.

If gingivitis is left untreated then it can sometimes develop into gum disease. If you inflamed gums do
not go away after changing to a good dental care routine, then you should speak to your dentist.
